Spotlight on Chesham – our estate agent’s view

Spotlight on Chesham – our estate agent’s view

Spotlight on Chesham – our estate agent’s view. Chesham is a popular market town on the edge of the Chilterns, surrounded by picturesque open countryside. Earliest records date back to the 10th century although archaeological evidence goes back to 8000 BC. Historically Chesham is known for its four Bs – Baptists, bootmaking, beer and brushmaking - but today the town’s employment lies in small businesses, technology and professional services. Proximity to the M25 and M1 and an easy commute to London via Amersham’s mainline train service into Marylebone or Chesham’s own Metropolitan Line station into Baker Street, make Chesham a prime commuter town.

Looking to downsize?

Looking to downsize?

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Property is a fundamental part of retirement planning for many people. Once grown up children have left home, downsizing can release cash for income, paying off debts or as a nest egg, and can also reduce overheads and maintenance costs. But new reports suggest that a lack of suitable properties means that many are unable to downsize and remain “stuck” in their own home.

The generation game

The generation game

Friday, March 24, 2017

For many reasons multi-generational living is becoming increasing popular in the UK with more British households now housing three or more generations living together under one roof. It’s a trend which has seen an estimated 30% increase in the past decade and continues to rise. According to the Office for National Statistics, 3.3m or 25% of 20-34 year olds lived in their parental home in 2016. At the other end of the scale, grandparents often want to downsize at a time when their children need more space but can’t afford it, so multi-generational living makes a great deal of sense.

Spotlight on Ashford – our estate agent’s view. Ashford, Surrey (not to be confused with Ashford, Kent) lies 15 miles SW of London. The village is listed in the Domesday Book as 'Exeford' and the historic St Matthew's Church dates back to 1293. Ashford derives its name from the River Ash, and from a ford over the river. A stone bridge built over the ford in 1789, forms part of the Fordbridge roundabout with weeping willow trees at its centre. Despite some ancient history, Ashford’s buildings mostly date from 1930 - 1960 as the village became the commuter town it is today, close to the M25 and with easy access to the M3, M4, M40 and Heathrow Airport. Ashford’s mainline station offers trains to London Waterloo running every 20 minutes with a 35 minute journey time.

Spring into action and add value

Spring into action and add value

Wednesday, March 8, 2017

As the clocks go forward, and with the “bank holiday season” upon us, almost 75% of UK homeowners plan to make home improvements. Whether preparing to move or improving your property, it’s important to weigh up the cost and the value it is likely to add. A good estate agent can advise you on this and what will sell your home quickly or at a higher price in your neighbourhood. If you’re selling, it makes sense to present your property well to avoid any negotiation on price. Often buyers overestimate the time and cost to refurbish a house and reduce their offer accordingly.
