Spotlight on Chesham – our estate agents view. Chesham is a popular market town on the edge of the Chilterns, surrounded by picturesque open countryside yet within easy reach of the M25 and M1. It’s an easy commute to London via Amersham’s mainline train service into Marylebone or Chesham’s own Metropolitan Line station into Baker Street, making this a prime commuter town. Earliest records date back to the 10th century although archaeological evidence shows people in the area from around 8000 BC. Historically Chesham is best known for the four Bs – Baptists, bootmaking, beer and brushmaking - but fast forward to 2020 and the town’s employment lies in small businesses, technology and professional services.

In December, a decisive general election result boosted economic confidence with the potential for some political certainty. With a majority government and Brexit now in sharp focus, leading behavioural economist Roger Martin-Fagg forecasts, “2020 will be a good year…. The best indicator will be monthly house sales. They are normally around 100,000 per month: we can expect 110,000 per month by April. There will be price recoveries in London and the South East and average selling prices will rise by 5% across the country.. The so called Boris Bounce will happen.” He is not often wrong, so watch this space!

As the new decade begins you may be thinking about a fresh start, perhaps moving house and being settled by spring.
