If you are mid-property search for your ideal home and not finding your perfect property, it’s worth looking at things afresh and remembering that home is where the heart is, and with a little love and inspiration you may just find it’s closer than you think. Look again at the properties you’ve viewed. What did you love or hate about them? Could you keep the part you love and change the bits you hated? Is your best option not to move but to stay and improve? Here are some great ways to rediscover the heart in your home.
For many people the kitchen is the heart of the home; warm, welcoming and the perfect place to add value if you are updating your home. Whether you’re a masterchef or a whizz with the microwave, a well- designed kitchen is a great asset. And whatever your budget, you can make a difference, from new tiles and accessories to new doors and worktop or a whole new kitchen.
If your heart is set on relaxing why wait for spring to give your home some TLC and revamp your living room or bedroom? February is the perfect time to think about a new colour scheme with accessories for a cosy contemporary look. There are many ways to update existing décor without having to redecorate your whole home. Use new neutrals and a dark accent colour, to create a calm yet uplifting haven to relax. Or choose rich tones, like royal blue or ruby, for key pieces and mix with ochre, rose and bronze, with metallic touches for added glamour.
With spring on its way (daffodils in January!!) now’s the time to lavish some love on your garden so it can firmly plant itself in your affections for when warmer days arrive. Clear leaves from snowdrops and other early flowers so you can really see them emerge and dig over any beds, adding organic matter to enrich the soil. There are frosts as late as May so insulate vulnerable plants, pots and taps with garden fleece.
