Property market activity increased significantly during January, according to NAEA Propertymark, indicating a busy few months for estate agents ahead of the peak spring market. The average number of house hunters registered per estate agent increased by 22% last month to reach the highest figures recorded for six months, NAEA Propertymark says. This is not just the usual seasonal January increase; the number of house hunters in the property market is almost 30% above the same period last year.

Slough remains top of the rankings as the best place in the UK to work according to research by jobs website, Glassdoor. Every year the company ranks towns with a score out of five for ease of getting a job, cost of living (salary vs home value) and job satisfaction and compiles a report with the top 25 towns and cities.

For the first time in many months, RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) has issued news of reasons to be cheerful as key stats in the property market such as buyer enquiries, sales and new instructions all showed increases for estate agents over the past month. The stats accompany the message that nationwide house prices have started to rise again underpinned by marked improvement in London and the South East.
