Current government advice for home movers

Following much debate, government advice on home moving during the COVID 19 crisis was issued last night. As things stand, there is NO need to pull out of transactions, but we must all follow the government’s guidance on staying at home /self-distancing and stick to the rules for those with symptoms, self-isolating or shielding. Everyone’s health must be THE number one priority.

In spite of the current situation, many people are still keen to move at the earliest opportunity. We are registering new applicants each day and our teams are happy to discuss all the available options in an everchanging situation.

For example, if a property is vacant, then you can continue with this transaction (following government guidance on home removals).

If a property is currently occupied, then all parties are encouraged to agree an alternative date for the move, at a time when stay-at-home measures are likely to be lifted. If a delayed moving date takes you beyond the terms of a mortgage agreement, UK Finance have confirmed that, for customers who have already exchanged contracts and set dates for completion, all mortgage lenders are working to extend their mortgage offer for up to three months to enable them to move at a later date.

The government statement can be found here. To summarise though, everyone involved in home moving will need to adapt and be flexible within an ever-changing situation.

If you are looking to sell and would like to get your property market ready, we have compiled up to date advice for sellers. Whilst you should not have visitors to your home, now’s a good time to start the sales process by assembling all the information you will need to provide to potential buyers.

Just call your local Frost office and we will be able to give you all the advice you need about the local property market and how to market your home.
