Teens Dream Homes - a guest blog by Amber, 16

There is a range of ‘ideal houses’ that teenagers aspire to own such as mansions, houses abroad and beach side houses. I believe that a teenager’s idea of a dream house is very much manipulated by the media and what they see on TV. Teenagers use social media every day, whether it is using a computer or scrolling through their facebook feed, and what they see can change their opinions on how they believe they should live and what to aspire to.

Most girls my age, I imagine, would want to be living in massive modern mansions with long curving driveways and beautiful gardens. I have no doubt that this image comes from celebrities who many girls my age look up to. This does not mean it is a bad image to have, as some individuals believe that social media can inspire young people to achieve their goals and ambitions, such as building their own house or running their own business. On the other hand this could give children low self-esteem, if they think they are not good enough to become successful, which could have knock on effects with their confidence and self-belief.

Of course a teenager’s dream house will have to include super-fast broadband as we need full access to the internet 24/7. Broadband is an essential part of a property and is now one of the main things people look for when they are buying a house as many people work from home or have teenagers.

In my opinion my dream house would be a beach side rustic house with wooden decking looking over a sandy covered beach. The house would be large enough to fulfil the needs of my family, with a large stone floored kitchen with an Aga and a central island. I think I get this image from my mother as she has always been a lover of rustic farmyard houses and timber fronted kitchens.
