New Year, New Home, New Look
Wednesday, January 19, 2022
As the new year begins you may be thinking about a fresh start, perhaps a new home and being settled by spring. And, whilst older properties have heaps of character, space and the opportunity to renovate and add value, a new home or conversion offers a brand new blank canvas that requires little maintenance and is ready to move in to.
So how do you go about making your mark on that blank canvas? For some expert inspiration it might be worth a visit (pandemic permitting) to The Ideal Home show at Olympia, London from 11th - 27th March 2022. Whether you’re moving to a new home or creating a new look in your current home, over 600 exhibitors will be showcasing all the latest hi tech products and design ideas. The 2022 Future Living Home at the show focuses on new innovative home technology, future interior trends and ways to make your home more sustainable and energy efficient along with interior inspiration and new ideas for colours and decorating styles.
In terms of décor, Pantone recently named "Very Peri" as its 2022 Color of the Year. A bold blue with a violet-red undertone, the shade will show up in everything from furniture to decor. Somewhat more versatile, Dulux Colour of the Year 2022 is Bright Skies, described as “an airy, light blue that's fresh, open and invigorating. It delivers a flavour of the natural world and brings a breath of fresh air to space. The soothing tone integrates nature into daily life, transforming spaces into a restorative escape from everyday stress.” Something we could all do with!
According to House Beautiful, in 2022, interior design trends will focus on reclaiming spaces previously adapted to home working with renewed interest in bringing the natural world indoors.
Sustainability is the watchword and a drive to purchase and decorate more consciously. If you are are trying to shop more sustainably, buy furniture made from sustainably sourced, local or recycled materials and reduce waste by buying/selling second hand furniture on sites like Gumtree and Freecycle.
Whatever trends inspire your interior design schemes in 2022, have fun, add your own stamp, then relax and enjoy the results.
