New Looks for 2025

If you are looking to move and planning some changes in your new home or maybe planning a fresh new look for your current property, here are a few hints and tips for a makeover. Dulux Colour of the Year for 2025 is True Joy™, “an uplifting yellow that fills our homes with optimism, pride and a pop of colour. If you can dream it, you can create it. Just Leap!” is the Dulux message. Flamboyant tones, and warm metallics are the buzzwords for 2025 alongside earthy neutrals and palettes that are warm and cosy.

A love of nature is almost universal, so bring lush greenery, earthy colours and eco-friendly materials indoors to create a relaxed vibe. Sustainability is still the order of the day for interior design. Materials such as reclaimed wood, bamboo, cork, and other natural and untreated materials are increasingly being used. Choosing vintage extends the life of classic pieces reducing landfill and purchase of mass-produced furniture, so it’s a win for our budget and the environment. To shop more sustainably, consider furniture made from sustainably sourced, local or recycled materials and buy or sell on sites like Gumtree and Freecycle. Choosing fixtures made from sustainable materials will help reduce your carbon footprint and make your home even “greener”.

Smart tech underpins design in our homes for comfort and convenience. From voice-activated or smart lighting to remote control of heating and electrical products, innovations are designed to make life easier and more efficient. Smart plugs, invisible speakers, and wireless charging furniture are increasingly popular. Lighting is key to the look of any room and LED bulbs have changed lighting for good with low energy consumption and longevity.

As the days get longer and brighter, maximise use of natural daylight with semi-transparent curtains that filter light in and position mirrors strategically for additional impact. Lighting is no longer purely functional; it's a key element in the design of any room and can completely change the ambiance. Statement downlights highlight features such as kitchen islands or dining tables or try layering multiple light sources to create texture in your room.

If you have an open plan layout, prepare for broken plan which provides all the advantages of the open plan yet allows for different activities to happen simultaneously. Instead of large undefined spaces, imagine functional spaces connected visually; arches and partitions to separate sitting areas from dining areas and chill-out zones. Furniture and décor should vary to reflect the function of each zone whilst being a unified whole. Whatever trends inspire you this year, have fun with your design, done your way, and relax and enjoy the results.
