Wraysbury FC unveils sponsorship banners with 4-2 win
Thursday, September 8, 2016
The Frost Partnership celebrated the extension of its sponsorship of Wraysbury FC through to 2019 by unveiling new banners at the Memorial Ground ahead of Wraysbury’s Thames Valley Premier League win on Saturday over third placed Mortimer.
The game got off to a slow start but ignited in the 25th minute when visiting keeper Stuart Gosby had to be replaced having severely broken his nose. The hold up in play seemed to affect Wraysbury and a corner saw Steven Campbell steal in unmarked to head Mortimer into the lead. Wraysbury regained their composure in spectacular fashion. Joe Jarra beat three players cutting in from the goal line and drove home a shot to level the scores on the stroke of half time.
Mortimer picked up the pace in the second half, won a disputed penalty with Michael Davies converting the spot kick. 15 minutes later Wraysbury again equalised; Jarra’s free kick headed home at the far post by Spencer Taffurelli. 9 minutes later, a superb cross by Joe Moriarty was headed into his own net by Christopher Fabianczyk and Wraysbury wrapped up the points in the 80th minute as Taffurelli volleyed home his second. Final score Wraysbury 4-2 Mortimer.
The win marked the end of a tricky seven days for Wraysbury who suffered two defeats in a week to the division’s top two clubs and with manager John Warrington revealing he had turned down the opportunity to meet with Burnham about their vacant managerial position. Next Saturday 10th September Wraysbury are away to Stokenchurch in the 1st round of the Berks & Bucks county cup. Kick-off 3pm.
