Fun on the Run! Sport Relief Mile
Thursday, March 27, 2014
On Sunday 23rd March over a hundred fun runners grabbed their trainers and descended on Slough Rugby Club to take part in the club’s Sport Relief Mile and raise money for charity. Runners could choose from one, three, or six-mile routes and got well and truly into the spirit of the day with onesies, face paints, costumes and a range of Sports Relief accessories.
The Frost Partnership were proud to see so many of the Slough Minis and Juniors taking part in the event in their Frost sponsored match day shirts, clearly enjoying the run and doing their bit for Sport Relief.
Andrew Leighton-Pope, chairman of Slough Rugby Club Mini and Juniors, said that despite the hailstorm it was an excellent day with more than £1,000 raised by the event in Tamblyn Fields, Upton Court Park, Slough.
"We like to get involved with Sport Relief because we are a sports club and it's an easy thing for us to do and for a local grassroots club to raise £1,000 to help people across the world is fantastic," he added.
In addition to the fun run, there was plenty of entertainment for young and old to enjoy, including a bouncy castle, sport taster sessions, fun-filled games and 22 stalls all of which helped to raise even more funds for the charity.
Sport Relief is a biennial charity event from Comic Relief, in association with BBC Sport, which brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to raise money to help vulnerable people in both the UK and the world's poorest countries.
