Community sports fun day encourages hundreds of people to get active

Minis coaches Colin White, Helen O'Hara, Mary Blumbergs and M&J Chairman Andrew Leighton-Pope ran the club stall, gave out wristbands and hosted a number of small breakout taster sessions for the local community as part of this celebration of local sport. Members of the Minis teams, sponsored by The Frost Partnership, had fun demonstrating their skills and encouraging other youngsters to join.

The Upton Lea community games fun day took place on Sunday, with around 450 turning out to try out a range of sports from volleyball to cricket. Visitors also pedal-powered the music over the speakers as well as enjoying other attractions including a bouncy castle and a petting zoo.

The fun and games at Upton Lea Recreation Ground, in Preston Road, Slough, were organised by Upton Lea Unity.

Shaida Akbar, chairwoman of the group, said: “We wanted people to enjoy sport and come together, so this is amazing.

“We had a good turnout which makes the work we have done worth it.

“It is the second year we have run it and it has been really successful. The main purpose is getting people active and improving their lifestyle.”

With the help of thier sponsorship by Frosts, the Slough Minis team continue to thrive and to support many local community events.
