Braving the Rations for Refugees Challenge
Tuesday, September 8, 2020
Almost 80 million people worldwide have been forced from their homes by conflict or disaster and now these communities will be hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Three of the team from our Staines office - Harry Edmonds, Joe Baldwin and Laura Woodward - will be taking part in the Rations for Refugees challenge, eating the exact same food rations as a Syrian refugee for one week from Thursday 10th to Wednesday 16th September and would really welcome your support.
Often refugees live in overcrowded conditions, with little food, healthcare or even basic sanitation, putting them at risk of infection. And it is not just a health crisis. The World Food Programme is now warning that the impact of lockdowns, job losses, and disruption to aid will mean many more people will face devastating hunger.
By taking the Ration Challenge, Harry, Joe and Laura will help to raise money to provide emergency food, hygiene kits and support to those hit hardest by the pandemic, as well as supporting Concern's wider work of ending hunger and extreme poverty in the world's poorest places.
Their rations for the week include a limited amount of rice, flour, lentils, dried chickpeas, tinned sardines, kidney beans and vegetable oil and if they raise enough money they may even get to add things like salt and spice to their food! Here’s hoping!
This year in the UK the challenge has raised £852,689, enough to feed 5,431 refugees for a year. The challenge details can be found here . And if you would like to sponsor our Staines team or donate, then please click here: Thank you in advance!
