Ashford, on the south-western edge of London, grew from a small village in the 1900s to become the commuter town it is today, located near to the M25, giving easy access to the M3, M4 and M40. Trains run to London Waterloo every 20 minutes with a 35 minute journey time, while there are also bus routes to Heathrow, Staines, Kingston and Twickenham.
The town has an excellent range of schools and colleges including Clarendon Primary School, St Michael’s Catholic Primary School and St James’ Senior School for boys.
Sport and leisure facilities include Ashford Manor Golf Club, Ashford Tennis Club and Clockhouse Lane Park with tennis courts, basketball court, football pitches and a play area whilst Bedfont Lakes Park has 180 acres of open space for dog walking and outdoor pursuits.
Local pubs such as The King's Fairway serve traditional British food and real ales in a genuine local pub warmed by a cosy fire. Alternatively The Kings Head is a fantastic community pub with a separate restaurant area and a substantial food menu complimented by chef specials. The pub is renowned for its contribution to local charities and live entertainment every Saturday night with either karaoke, a disco or live music.
The town centre has an array of local shops, schools, pubs and takeaway/restaurants with a wider selection in the neighbouring towns of Sunbury, Feltham and Staines.
A significant local landmark is the town’s war memorial, while other attractions include Ashford’s Fordbridge Park, Laleham Park and the Queen Mary Sailing Club at Staines which offers sailing and windsurfing all year round on 700 acres of open water for watersports enthusiasts.
